Hey dear friends, fellow yogis and wellness lovers and entrepreneurs.
These are some of my favorite books of all time. I am still amazed at the power of books. By the return on investment in a BOOK! We can spend thousands of dollars on education, when so much of what we want is already available to us for $10. There are so many ways to learn, and there is no substitute for live events, dynamic exchange, human interaction. But second to that, man.. books are where it's at!
These are the ones I have read in the last 2 years (most for the second time) that have supported me in my life, my teachings and my business. I could not recommend them more highly.
I so appreciate your support in purchasing them from the links here. I receive a small commission from amazon, you get two day prime shipping, and everyone wins! But really, I appreciate your support.
light and love, Julie
Miracles Now, by Gabby Bernstein
This is one of my favorite books of all time. I can sit and read it for 5 minutes, and feel reconnected to all of the light and power within me to change my own attitude, my own life, and lives of others. Not just as a yoga teacher but as a person. Gabby Bernstein is named by Oprah as one of the thought leaders of our generation, and she is a force on light on this planet. I have had the great priviledge to train with her and I can tell you she is brilliant, and the real deal.
This book has helped me realize just how much I can do everyday to support my own wellbeing. And I have learned countless tools that I use and share in my practice everyday. It is my hope that it will support you too!
The Yoga Sutras Text, by Sri Swami Satchidananda
This is my favorite translation of the sutras. It's fairly easy to read, understand and breakdown.
If you haven't read this book yet, it's the foundation of sacred texts in yoga. It's profound, deep, and for me was super life changing and what inspired my #summerofyogalove 30 day series.
Highly recommends x100!
It's also a great place to start if you're thinking about taking a yoga teacher training and wondering what you will learn. It will inspire you and also spark your curiosity to want to dive deeper into this in a group setting.
Big Magic, by Elizabeth Gilbert
Elizabeth Gilbert hits the nail on the head, every time.
Her words are so poignant, so beautiful, so loving and so.. GO GET EM. I love that spirit and can't get enough of her work. I highly recommend this voice for anyone creative entrepreneur or any person who has a creative spirit in general that wants to light up that fire. If anyone can help you do that, it's Elizabeth! I had so much fun reading this book and also literally laughed out loud many times.
Perfectly imperfect is PACKED with yoga wisdom!
Perfectly Imperfect, by Baron Baptiste
Baron Baptise is a seriously impressive yogi, entrepreneur, and deeply inspiring person. He takes lessons from yoga and translates them to every part of life with his signature trait.. power. (his Baptise yoga is power yoga) It's a short book that every morning I read for 5 minutes (with a couple longer weekend reads) and it connected me back to my practice and the best version of myself in a huge way.
The Heart Speaks, by Dr. Mimi Guarneri
Written by none other than my dear mentor and number one ranked female integrative cardiologist in the country - Mimi Guarneri. This is one of my favorite books because it speaks to the need to listen. To embrace all healing powers, all possibilities.
Mimi's is heart-centered, smart, pragmatic, and an optimist and go-getter to make positive change in this world. I couldn't think of a book or spirit to inspire more than Mimi, really.
Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life, by Dr. Wayne Dyer
A classic, wisdom-filled read.
One I picked up many years ago and in many ways still use as a guide to living. Dr. Wayne Dyer is profound, clear, simple and his insights are the best.
I love gifting this book to anyone who is open-minded and loves to experience life. It's one I will always keep around.
business + life books
The Slight Edge, by Jeff Olson
One of my all time favorite books and one of THE BEST books for people just getting started on the road of big dreams. I am so so grateful for this book and for Jeff Olson in supporting me on getting started on my journey of teaching yoga, building a business, and bigger than all of it- starting somewhere to live my dreams and do something bigger than me.
The One Thing, by Gary Keller
Every time I have a big win in my life or in business it's because I came back to this principle.
It's probably the hardest one for me to live by and still challenges me on the reg to focus on "just one thing". I am an enthusiast of life and so many topics in the wellness and adventure lifestyle field. And still we all know that if we try to do everything at once, nothing thrives. A great read for once you've narrowed you're target, or if you know you really need to and your wanting some hard evidence that it's worth your time!
Awaken the Giant Within, by Tony Robbins
A book that literally helped me realize it was all possible. That there was more in me than I realized. And to start believing it and living it. He is a master, and I am so incredible grateful for this work. Tony robbins, among many mentors in my life, helped me realize we are here on this planet to do great things.
I actually really love the audio version because it's something I can listen to in the car and not fall asleep! like most audio books for me. But that's just a side note ! This is a must read!
Money, by Tony Robbins
I realize this might seem like an odd book to have on a yogi website! But hey, I'm listing it anyway. Tony Robbins has done everyone in America a huge service by writing this book. It's a long, dense read. I will admit there are pages I've skipped. But I can tell you if you're trying to manage even the smallest sum of savings to grow it, or to invest in yourself, and your future, Tony Robbins will show you how.
He'll also tell you why not paying attention to money and finances and learning the ropes of how this system in America works will not serve you (putting it nicely) The systems we have in place in the US are designed to make big banks and mutual funds win. Instead Tony Robbins breaks down how to take responsibility for our money and our future, and show us the path to win and exactly how to do it.
I am also forever grateful to Ramit Sethi and Carter Thomas for their incredible knowledge in entrepreneurship and money management. Its something I knew very little about until a couple years ago, and I'm grateful to them for sharing countless free and affordable resources
I encourage you to carve out time to learn and support your own financial wellbeing. It is scary and overwhelming at first, yes. But it's so much better to know than to let it remain a scary mystery :)
