Welcome Hakomi

SCROLL DOWN

Welcome Hakomi

Once you start approaching your body with curiosity rather than with fear, everything shifts.

—Bessel van der kolk

Hakomi can be a supportive path for people who are thoughtful, sensitive, and capable — and who still find themselves feeling anxious, stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected.

Many people come to this work during times of transition or questioning: changes in relationships or work, experiences of grief or loss, shifts in identity, or moments when old coping strategies no longer work. Others come because they notice familiar emotional or relational patterns repeating, despite years of insight or personal growth.

Hakomi is especially well-suited for people who want more than talking or problem-solving. It supports those who are curious about the body, open to slowing down, and interested in understanding how early life experiences and unconscious beliefs continue to shape present-day reality.

This work can be helpful if you’ve done some mindfulness healing on your own through meditation, yoga, journaling, or therapy, and both enjoyed it and have a sense that something deeper wants attention. Hakomi offers healing that happens in relationship, through safe, attuned presence, where new experiences of support, choice, and connection can emerge.

You don’t need to know exactly what you want to work on. You only need a willingness to be curious and to explore at your own pace, with support.

What does Somatic mean?

It means connected to your body!

Somatic work doesn’t replace thinking—it includes it, while welcoming more of you into the process.

One way to describe somatic experience is that it includes multiple channels of awareness. I find the acronym TIMES helpful:

  • Thoughts

  • Images

  • Memories

  • Emotions

  • Sensations

By honoring all of these, we respect the value of thought while also making space for the body’s innate intelligence and wisdom.

Working with Julianne has helped me slow down and truly listen to my body. She supports me in tracking my own nervous system regulation so I can recognize my patterns and familiar responses with more kindness and curiosity. In our work together, I’ve learned how to feel what my system needs in order to soften and be held in a deeply compassionate space. Julianne meets me exactly where I am — with playfulness, levity and depth — and that makes it feel safe for all parts of me to show up.

I have had the most wonderful experience working with Julianne. I have tried other forms of therapy including EMDR, Ayahuasca, and many years of talk therapy. Doing Hakomi with Julianne is the practice that has been the most transformative. Her guidance helps me connect more fully with my body and emotions and has given me tools to navigate through challenging times. Her presence is calming, compassionate and deeply attentive and attuned. I always feel safe to explore whatever is coming up. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a gentle, mindful approach to healing and self discovery. It has been so empowering for me.

The somatic work I've been doing with Julie over the last 6 months has truly helped me open to knowing myself as more whole, even as I work through some deep things.. I’ve done a lot of therapy over the years, and I've found that with the Hakomi method and Julie's approach, I can more easily understand what emotions I’m feeling, and how to work with them. In a typical session, Julie guides me through really being with what's present, for example fear and stress. We then practice feeling and connecting with my body, and actionable ways to experiment with how I can relate to myself that help me get out of my overthinking mind. This has not only been stress relieving but has also lead to some really powerful insight, the kind that changes you, that you don’t forget because you really feel it.  I’ve also found our work to be incredibly grounding. Julie’s genuine and connected presence is nourishing on its own, and the methodology is highly effective in addressing both short-term challenges and long-term goals. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Julie and highly recommend her to anyone looking to heal, grow, and thrive.

I've had the privilege of working with Julie as my Hakomi practitioner for just six weeks so far, and I can say already that it has been a truly a transformative experience. Julie's gentle approach immediately put me at ease, creating a safe space for exploration and healing. Her deep understanding and informative insights into the Hakomi technique enriched each session, allowing me to gain a better understanding of myself and my experiences.

One of Julie's greatest strengths is her ability to provide insightful guidance, helping me to explore my anxiety from a somatic perspective. Through her skillful facilitation, I was able to uncover underlying patterns and gain valuable insights into my own emotional landscape.

Overall, Julie's compassionate presence and expertise as a Hakomi practitioner have been invaluable on my journey towards greater self-awareness and healing. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking support in navigating life's challenges with mindfulness and compassion. It is truly an empowering, inspired way to connect with oneself and I look forward to deepening in this work.

What Working Together Looks Like

1. Beginning with Connection

We start with a brief 15-minute discovery call to get a feel for each other and for this work. You’re welcome to ask questions, share what’s bringing you here, and sense whether my approach feels supportive. If we decide to continue, I’ll share an intake form, logistics, and we’ll schedule our first session.

Finding the right practitioner matters. If at any point this doesn’t feel like the right fit, I’m always happy to help you find other resources or referrals.

2. Our Early Sessions

Our work may include talking, but it isn’t traditional talk therapy. We begin with a gentle check-in and grounding, then move into somatic exploration—paying attention to sensations, emotions, and patterns as they arise in the present moment.

It’s common to feel unsure at first. We move slowly, with care and curiosity, checking in often. Creating safety, trust, and support is foundational, and sets the conditions for meaningful change. I’ve found that meaningful and lasting change comes from building a steady, attuned relationship and supporting your nervous system’s capacity to pause, feel, and respond differently.

3. The Ongoing Work

Somatic therapy is a process that unfolds over time. Learning the language of the body—and allowing new experiences of support and awareness to take hold—happens most deeply through consistent, relational work.

There’s no required timeline. Many people find that 3–6 months of weekly sessions offers a clear sense of what’s possible, while others choose to continue longer as new layers emerge. We regularly check in about pacing and goals.

I meet with clients weekly for 60- 70-minute sessions depending on your preference. I believe consistency and relationship are key ingredients for meaningful growth.

Logistics & FINANCIAL EXCHANGE

I work with clients in series of 8 sessions. My rate is $130/ session. At any given time I have a couple spaces available for sliding scale rates, and welcome you to inquire as needed.

I am not a licensed therapist, so I do not accept insurance. However I am happy to provide an invoice if you are using wellness benefits to pay for therapy.

After Sessions

You may feel tired, energized, or more open following a session. Allowing time afterward—for rest, journaling, or a gentle walk—can support integration. Giving yourself spaciousness is part of the work.
